There are a number of things to do periodically concerning your tires. After all, they are the part of your car that is in contact with the road and are the first to respond to the road’s variations, being the vehicle’s most important safety feature. Therefore, they are near the top of the list for truck and auto repair.

Because one of the main reasons to inspect your tires is to verify that the car is in good condition, this is something that Unique Auto Care Victorville wants to do when you bring your car in for service. By inspecting your tires for signs of uneven wear, it can be seen if there may be a problem in alignment or suspension issues. Checking for signs of an indication of more where on the inside or outside of the tire versus an even wear pattern across the width of the tire can give you indications that the car may be out of alignment or one with bad shocks, or perhaps in need of some other adjustments and need of repair to the automobile.

What the size and type of tires you should have on your vehicle you can find in your owner’s manual. However, if you have misplaced the manual, there is an information placard on your vehicle that is required by law. The placard is firmly attached to your door edge, doorpost, glove compartment door or inside your trunk lid. It may have been painted over on some older cars, but it’s there.

The codes on the side of the tire are important because they give you the information as to the size and type of tire that it is. These numbers and letters indicate the size, type, and performance of the tire. Let us look at a tire with a code of 235/40 R 19.

The three-digit number, 235 is the width of the tire in millimeters, measured from sidewall to side. The 40 after the / is called the aspect ratio. This ratio is the comparison of the height of the tire’s cross-section to its width. In this example, it would mean that the height is 40% of the width. The larger this ratio is the bigger the tire sidewall is going to be.

The letter “R” in a tire size stands for Radial, which means the layers run radially across the tire. Wheel diameter is the size of the wheel measured from one end to the other. This is the size of the wheel that the tire is intended to fit. In this case, the wheel would be 19 inches in diameter.

There are four important things your tires give you on your vehicle. First is the Safety of the vehicle as they are the item that is in contact with the road and navigates the variations in the road, including those chuck holes and other demons of the road. There is a higher efficiency of the car when the tires are inflated properly. With proper inflation and alignment, the vehicle will run better and cut down on the cost of operation.

When your tires have good tread, are balanced properly, and are filled to the proper pressure, you can feel the difference in the way your car drives. The performance will be at it’s best and the ride will be smoother and a more pleasurable ride.

Lastly, the traction ensures that you remain in control of your vehicle even when faced with tough conditions like snowy or slushy roads. Tires with the proper amount of tread help pass water and snow through so your car stays grounded as you drive. Without that tread, the rubber just spins on wet surfaces, and you can quickly find yourself in a scary situation.
